CAS confirms corruption in World Triathlon elections

EXCLUSIVE: The head of the American confederation, Liber García (Uruguay), rigged elections with other continental princes and the then secretary general Antonio Arimany. The new triathlon boss Arimany is also ICAS vice president. An opposition is calling for an investigation and new elections.

The first word naturally goes to Michelle Cooper from Brisbane, who has been involved in triathlon on a voluntary basis for many years and was a board member of World Triathlon from 2020 to 2024. Last year, Michelle Cooper ran for the presidency of this Olympic IF. The faction that rules World Triathlon, which calls itself either The Team or The Group, quickly made it clear to her through Liber García that there was only one way forward: do as she was told. Withdraw her candidacy and run for the position of vice president instead.
