New allegations of sexual harassment against IOC member Moustapha Berraf
Why the Algerian is allowed to lead ANOCA and remain an IOC member despite his history of scandals and allegations of corruption has been an unresolved question for many years. What does Berraf have on IOC leaders? Now, allegations of sexual harassment are being made again in the ANOCA sphere.
"I think this kind of person has a psychiatric problem. They need treatment. And leaving this kind of person to roam free... Today, he lifted my skirt. But tomorrow, because he's so frustrated when women say no to him, won't he end up raping them?"
Statements by a whistleblower about IOC member Berraf
This time, the allegations are directed at Moustapha Berraf himself. Berraf serves as the president of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) 2018 and was recently "re-elected" until 2029. In this role, he became an IOC member in 2019. He has been serving as one of ANOCA's vice president from 2002-2017.
Well-documented allegations of sexual harassment in the ANOCA empire are unfortunately not extraordinary news, but seem to be the norm. A year ago, just before Kirsty Coventry was elected IOC President, Romain Molina and I told the story of a brave whistleblower who was kept as a slave labourer (that's how she called it) by Berraf for years and sexually harassed by several ANOCA dignitaries: "Olympic Horror: when condoms are referred to as work tools".

There seems to be a pattern.
